SEO Tip: See How Google Sees Your Website

Tue, Jan 4, 2011

You don't have to wonder how or if Google sees your website.  Google provides a free service for this - appropriately called Webmaster Tools.

Google Webmaster Tools allows website owners to:

  • View Crawler Errors
  • Identify Restricted Pages
  • Identify Unreachable Pages
  • Identify Indexed Pages
  • See Incoming Page Links to your Website
  • See Keywords that Google Identified on your Website
  • View HTML Suggestions for Improving your Website's User Experience and Performance
  • See your Website as Googlebot sees your Website
  • Tell Google about the Pages on your Website

To use Google Webmaster Tools you'll need to create a Google Webmaster Tools account, add your website to the account and verify ownership of your website.

If your website is new or hasn't been crawled and indexed by Google you can use Webmaster Tools to submit a sitemap to tell Google about the pages on your website.

Once your website has been indexed, Webmaster Tools will continually collect data about the website.  You can use this data to identify and correct search engine crawl errors, view search queries that were used to find your site, identify pages linked to your site, and much more.
